Hi! This is a blog dedicated to budget deckbuilding for MTG. If you have ideas for a deck and can't make it work, let me know and I'll see what I can do!
Sorry for the lack of posts.
I’m still recovering from surgery, there are apparently some… complications.
Also, Skyward Sword. Yeah.
I’ll be getting together the decks submitted to me soon! Grimoire of the Dead, Back from the Brink, and… what was it? Ghostly Possession, by a Mr. Dack Fayden. He doesn’t seem at all suspicious.
That card is awesome! I actually have a copy, too! I like the idea, and have a fun plan for it. Thank you!
I actually really like this card! Thanks, I’m excited for this one!
That’s number two! Next one is the last entry!
Haha! Okay, you’re the first to make it in. I’ll see what I can do.
Ahh, I should have figured people would give me ‘interesting’ cards that weren’t exactly, uh, great.
I admit, I chuckled.
Man, I WISH I had that card. I gave the two copies I pulled to my girlfriend for her Knights deck.
I REGRET NOTHING.
Put an enchantment, artifact, or creature in my ask.
I will base a deck around the first three to make it in!
All submissions must be standard and less that five dollars per card, so that I can fit a playset into the deck.
That is AWESOME! I usually do standard, but I think I might take a peek into legacy/modern soon! Oh, I love me some infect- my main deck is b/u infect.
Thank you so much! You make this so much fun, and very worth doing. Remember, feedback is always appreciated!
Jon never considered it, but I thought about it- black, human, works with sac’ing creatures… why not, right? I think there is definitely room for it, but when it comes to serving a purpose, it’s a ground-based heavy hitter- a position filled already by Geist-Honored Monk. Again, though, definitely a position, if you make some creatures x3 instead of x4.
EDIT: I double checked the cannibals, and remembered why I said no- they only get buffed with human death, so if I were to sideboard in the Silverchase Fox, or if the match ended up with most of the deaths being spirit and demon tokens due to Disciple of Griselbrand, it’s effect wouldn’t much come into play.
This deck is one I’ve had on standby for a while, and all credit goes to my friend Jon. I had surgery yesterday so the next couple of days I won’t be thinking clearly- thankfully, I have two or three decks saved as drafts for just this occasion, and I’m glad that I did so.
You requested a human-spirit deck, and I realized as I was working on it that technically, this fits the bill and then some. This is the first white-black deck I ever encountered and it’s so good, that being beaten by it is even fun! I hope you like demons with your spirits!
This deck is standard.
Creatures: Skirsdag High Priest (1.00) x4, Skirsdag Cultist x4, Doomed Traveler x4, Mausoleum Guard x4, Geist-Honored Monk (1.25) x4, Selfless Cathar x4.
Other Spells: Midnight Haunting x4, Intangible Virtue x2, Mask of Avacyn x4, Moan of the Unhallowed x2.
Land: 13 plains, 8 swamp, 2 Shimmering Grotto, 1 Isolated Chapel (7.00)
Sideboard: Silverchase Fox x4, Oblivion Ring (1.00) x4, Swamp x2, Plains x1, Altar’s Reap x4
Okay! This deck is based around using the High Priest to create demons. Do this at the end of your opponent’s turn for maximum effect! Jon usually bides his time- he’ll declare a blocker, use the Cultist to sacrifice it (taking no damage but gaining life) then activate the Priest to create a demon, tapping tokens in the process. This is one reason intangible virtue is there- you can swing on your turn, and tap them on your opponents. Clearly, you want to use the Masks to make your Priest’s hexproof.
Jon had a higher budget, and he’s able to do things a little more interestingly. He splashes blue with a couple of dual lands in order to play 2 Moorland Haunt in his deck while still maintaining mana curve. I believe at one point he ran ghost quarter, but I’m not positive. Another higher priced alternative would be to replace Midnight Haunting with Timely Reinforcements, even though they’re ground based and situationally present. I would recommend a tutor or two if you can fit one, but that’s just me being picky.
Total Price: Approximately $20.00.
Happy casting! May all your pulls be good.
